Stakeholder communication

Transparency is important to Sonae Sierra. We are keen to communicate effectively with all of our key stakeholders, and to initiate a dialogue to understand, and be responsive to, their key concerns and aspirations. A wide variety of communication methods are employed to achieve this.

Investors and Financiers All those towards whom we have a fiduciary responsibility to minimise risks, and maximise returns on investment. Includes shareholders, lenders, insurers and investors.
  • Annual reports and accounts and quarterly financial reports.
  • Regular meetings and presentations
  • Employees All those persons directly employed by Sierra across all divisions and countries, as well as their families. It includes both part- and full-time staff and those on permanent or temporary contracts across any job function.
  • Corporate-wide and country specific communications e.g. our magazine Horizons and intranet news.
  • Performance evaluation plans and access to HR support.
  • Be Innovative programme to stimulate ideas and reward innovative suggestions for new ways of working.
  • Corporate Climate and Employee Satisfaction Survey first launched in staff in November 2007.
  • Open Word session for all staff to make suggestions and raise concerns at monthly Safety and Health meetings at all sites in operation.
  • Tenants All those companies that lease space within our shopping and leisure centres, as well as their employees who work in our centres. They are principally retailers and leisure operators, ranging from small local start-up companies to multi-national brands with a large market presence

  • In 2007, meetings were held between Sierra Senior Executives and Executive and their counterparts from key tenant companies in order to present the PERSONAE project and invite tenants’ collaboration.
  • Suppliers All the companies and organisations that provide Sierra with products, goods or services, across all business activities. They range enormously in size, turnover, and geographical location, as well as in the environmental and social risks they might pose to our business
  • Questionnaires regarding CR practices
  • Training to suppliers on issues such as Environmental Management and Safety and Health.
  • Visitors All the organisations and individuals who visit our shopping and leisure centres, for personal, community and educational purposes.
  • Visitor satisfaction surveys
  • Magazines, marketing materials and marketing events and information stands in our shopping
  • Shopping centre websites, www.sierracentres.com, and corporate website.
  • Government Authorities (in particular municipalities & regional bodies) The municipalities and regional bodies in all the areas where Sierra owns, manages, or develops land and buildings, as well as Governmental Departments we interface with.
  • Engage with municipalities as part of the planning and development process
  • Relationships with authorities such as the police and emergency services.
  • Local Communities All those individuals, authorities, and organisations that are located in areas where we have investments, or that are affected by our properties. Examples include residents, businesses, and public authorities
  • Community consultation prior to development
  • Impact assessment studies during the construction phase.
  • Visitor surveys to analyse the impact of the shopping centre on residents.
  • Co-ordination of 291 visits from local schools in shopping centres to teach children about sustainability-related issues during 2007.
  • Launch of first Sierra Community Panel at Dos Mares, Spain.
  • Media All the organisations and individuals that are interested in Sierra from a journalistic or news perspective. This group includes both international, national and local press as well as sector news representatives.
