What are the challenges?
Employee satisfaction and performance
Happy and healthy employees generally perform better at work, and staff who have had the opportunity to learn and improve useful skills tend to carry out tasks with more confidence and to a higher standard. There are, therefore, mutual benefits of providing more training, ensuring a good work/life balance and good workplace conditions. Furthermore, enabling employees to have input into issues of both management and strategic nature within a company also increases staff motivation and makes employees feel more valued and ensures that more informed decisions are made by the business as a whole.
What is Sonae Sierra doing about them?
At Sonae Sierra we continue to work to ensure excellent workplace conditions for all our employees in both our shopping centres and our offices.
We allocate to our staff a significant amount of time and budget for training across three principal categories (technical, behavioural and languages), and we monitor and report annually on investment in staff training, please see Our Progress.
During 2007 we launched our first Corporate Climate and Employee Satisfaction survey with the objective of understanding Employee's expectations and concerns relative to Sonae Sierra and identifying opportunities for improvement. According to the results, 79% of staff believes that Sierra is a good company to work for. Following the results of the survey, Sierra drafted an action plan to bring improvements to areas which received less positive feedback. This plan includes, for example, measures to evaluate the possibility of enabling more flexible working arrangements and to increase feedback sessions between employees and supervisors.
