Joaquim Pereira Mendes Legal, Tax, Mergers & Acquisitions

Joaquim Pereira Mendes joined Sonae Sierra in 1989 and is responsible for the Company’s Legal, Tax and Mergers & Acquisitions activities. He is a member of the ICSC European Legal Group.

Jorge Morgadinho Development Services

Jorge Morgadinho has been with Sonae Sierra since 1994. He joined Centro Colombo as an architect. Following that he was appointed Deputy Development Manager for Centro Vasco da Gama. From 1999 to 2005 he was responsible for the development of three shopping centres in Spain, and in 2006 he was appointed Expansion Manager for New Markets. Since 2010 he is responsible for the design activities in Sonae Sierra as Director of Conceptual Design & Architecture. In 2019 he was also appointed Managing Director of Sierra Development Services.

Joaquim Ribeiro Finance, Planning and Control

Joaquim Ribeiro joined the Sonae Group’s holding company in 1985, before transferring to Sonae Indústria. He then moved to London for six years, where he worked for Sonae International. In 1995 he joined Sonae Sierra’s financial department, where – since 2008 – he has been responsible for Finance, Control, Back Office and Information Systems. He is a member of the Sustainability Steering Committee and responsible for the Risk Management Working Group.

Manuela Calhau Innovation and Market Intelligence

Manuela Calhau joined Sonae Sierra in 2008 following senior positions in the telecommunications sector, where she was a board member at several Sonaecom companies, and in the consultancy sector at McKinsey & Co, being the first Portuguese woman to join the firm at management level. At Sonae Sierra, she is responsible for Innovation, Market Intelligence and Improving our Work departments for Europe & New Markets. At an industry level, she was until recently the ICSC Solal Awards Chairman for Europe & South Africa, and the Chairman of the European ICSC Marketing Core Group. Manuela is also a visiting faculty member for the Lisbon MBA program, a joint program with MIT, where she is responsible for the Case Competition course.

Cristina Santos Property Management, Iberia

Cristina Santos joined Sonae Sierra in 1995 as Assistant Director of GaiaShopping, where she later became the centre’s Director. In 1999 she became NorteShopping Centre Manager until 2001. She subsequently transferred to the Company’s central Property Management division and is now the Managing Director of Sonae Sierra Property Management in Portugal and Spain, with special responsibilities for property management and letting.

Alexandre Fernandes Asset Management Europe

Alexandre Fernandes joined Sonae Sierra in 1997 as Development Manager of NorteShopping. Prior to joining Sonae Sierra, he worked in the telecommunications sector and as a university researcher. Alexandre has extensive experience in investment, asset management, property management and development in the real estate sector and is now responsible for all Sonae Sierra’s European asset management activities.

Alberto Bravo Property Management, Eastern Europe & North Africa

Alberto Bravo spent four years in charge of the property management and leasing activities of Spanish consultancy CCC before joining Sonae Sierra in 2000. Since then, he has held various positions within Sonae Sierra, ranging from Regional Operations Manager for southern Spain to Managing Director for Property Management and Leasing for the whole of Spain, a responsibility he took up in 2010, managing a portfolio of 14 shopping centers and more than 650k of GLA. In 2012 he added the Romanian market to his specific responsibilities and in 2013 he added Greece. In 2016 he became Managing Director for Property Management and Leasing in Eastern Europe & North Africa, while maintaining the responsibility of Country Representative for Spain.

Pedro Soveral Rodrigues Human Resources

Pedro Soveral Rodrigues joined Sonae Sierra in 1998 as Deputy Manager of Centro Colombo. Since then, he has assumed different responsibilities at the Company, including the Expansion role in Iberia, the leadership of the Safety & Health area and responsibility for Property Management in Italy. In 2010 he was appointed Head of Human Resources. He is a member of the Sustainability Steering Committee, the Innovation Steering Committee and Improving Our Work Steering Committee.

Thanos Efthymiopoulos Asset Management and Finance,Greece and Romania and Development Greece

Thanos Efthymiopoulos joined Sonae Sierra in Greece as Head of Finance and Back Office in March 2010. Since July 2011 he also assumed responsibility for the Development and Asset Management businesses and Country Representative for Greece. In October 2013 he also took charge of the Finance functions in Romania and in September 2016 the Asset Management business for Romania. Prior to joining Sonae Sierra, Thanos was the CIO of a real estate private equity firm, specialising in south east Europe. Before that, he was an Executive Director and the CFO of a leading real estate development group in Athens, Greece. His professional experience started in 1994 at the Athens office of Arthur Andersen.

Vitor Freitas Duarte New Investment Vehicles, Director

Vitor Freitas Duarte joined Sonae in 1997 and held various positions ranging from Investor Relations at Sonae SGPS to Project Manager at Sonae UK. In 2004 he joined Sonae Sierra as a Finance Manager and, three years later, he assumed responsibilities as Senior Manager for New Projects and Acquisitions in Europe. In 2010, he was also appointed Corporate Controller with responsibilities for information systems and European back offices. In 2017 Vitor moved to the Madrid office with responsibilities for the investment and management of ORES Socimi and developing new investment vehicles.

José Maria Robles Property Management, Italy

José Maria Robles joined Sonae Sierra in 2003 as a Shopping Centre Manager. In 2007 he was appointed Regional Operations Manager for Central and Southern Spain, and in 2012 he was appointed General Manager for Property Management in Italy. Before joining Sonae Sierra he was a Regional Operations Manager for Lidl supermarkets in eastern Spain.

João Carlos Lélis Fund Management

João Carlos Lélis joined Sonae Sierra in 2004 as an investment analyst, later becoming Director- Fund Management. Current responsibilities include the management of Sierra Prime fund, Sierra Portugal Fund, Iberia Coop fund, the monitoring of European portfolio investments and transaction support. Prior to Sonae Sierra, he was a consultant with McKinsey & Co, and also with Arthur Andersen. João collaborates regularly with INREV (the European Association for Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles) and is a member of the Advisory Board of GRI Portugal.

Marco Pellizzari Developments, Italy

Marco Pellizzari joined Sonae Sierra Italy as General Manager for Developments in October 2014, having spent over 25 years working in commercial real estate for national and international companies including Fininvest Group, Decathlon, Blockbuster, Pirelli RE and BNP Paribas RE. He has extensive experience in property development, asset management and real estate advisory.

Christoph Billwiller Developments, Germany

Christoph Billwiller joined Sonae Sierra in 2005 as Legal Manager for Germany & Austria, having previously worked for an international law firm. From 2005 until 2017 he has been responsible for the Legal Department in Germany, accumulating from 2015 onwards the role of Director Legal & Finance with the role of Country Representative in Germany. Since 2017 Christoph is responsible for Developments in Germany, maintaining the responsibility of Country Representative.

Degree in Law and Doctorate in Law, both from WWU Münster, and has been admitted to the bar.


Marcus Arildsson Capital Raising and Investor Relations, Director

Marcus Arildsson joined Sonae Sierra in 2018. Based in Madrid, he leads capital raising initiatives and relationships with third party investors. Prior to joining Sonae Sierra, he spent 20 years in investment banking, advising financial investors, corporates, and family-owned businesses on M&A and capital markets transactions as well as a variety of financing and restructuring situations.
He began his career in 1997 in Equity Capital Markets at Lehman Brothers in London. Following more than 5 years as Vice President in the Consumer Products and Retail Investment Banking team at Merrill Lynch in London, he joined the Madrid-based Corporate Finance and M&A team at Arcano Partners in 2006.
