We have also followed the International Integrated Reporting Council’s (IIRC) Integrated Reporting Framework to provide readers with a fully integrated account of our business strategy and operational performance in 2016, demonstrating the alignment between our core business and sustainability goals.
The In Review offers a summary of our 2016 performance.
The Sustainability Performance by Country Summary Report provides a summary of our performance in each of our main countries of operation. Readers can also ‘make your own report’, selecting the countries which they are most interested in.
Each year we track our progress against the previous year's annual sustainability targets and actions.
Since 2005 we have commissioned external evaluations of our progress against these targets, and since 2008 these have also included internal sustainability actions.
These reports provide details of the targets and actions achieved and the methodology used to make the evaluations.
In 2016, we fully achieved 25 out of 31 sustainability targets (81%) and partially achieved 4 targets (13%). We also fully achieved 27 out of 39 sustainability actions (69%) and partially achieved 8 actions (21%)
Sonae is a signatory of the Global Compact, a voluntary contract between the United Nations and the worldwide business community. It is designed to encourage companies to embrace, support and enact, within their sphere of influence, a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment, and anti-corruption.
As we are partially owned by Sonae, we must provide this shareholder with an outline of how we comply with these principles, so it can fully report to the United Nations. Although we are not obliged to so, we have made our report on progress against the Global Compact principles publicly available.
We have also set ourselves long term objectives related to the Safe People and Resource Resilience, Future Fit Retail and Knowledge focus areas of our sustainability strategy.
A full list of our current long term objectives is available to download below.
