This is our 14th corporate responsibility report and the 12th to comply with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). The report has been independently verified by Deloitte to ensure that data and information is accurate, and that it complies with the ‘Core’ in accordance requirements of the GRI Reporting Standards (2016), including Construction and Real Estate Sector Disclosure (CRESD).
We have also followed the International Integrated Reporting Council’s (IIRC) Integrated Reporting Framework to provide readers with a fully integrated account of our business strategy and operational performance in 2017, demonstrating the alignment between our core business and sustainability goals.

The Sustainability Performance by Country Summary Report provides a summary of our performance in each of our main countries of operation. You can also ‘make your own report’, selecting the countries which they are most interested in.
Each year we track our progress against the previous year's annual sustainability targets and actions.
Since 2005 we have commissioned external evaluations of our progress against these targets, and since 2008 these have also included internal sustainability actions.
These reports provide details of the targets and actions achieved and the methodology used to make the evaluations.
In 2017, we fully achieved 26 out of 39 applicable sustainability targets (67%) and partially achieved 4 targets (10%). Three targets set at the beginning of the year were considered not applicable.
We also fully achieved 19 out of 22 applicable sustainability actions (86%) and partially achieved three actions (14%). Two actions set at the beginning of the year were considered not applicable.
Sonae is a signatory of the Global Compact, a voluntary contract between the United Nations and the worldwide business community. It is designed to encourage companies to embrace, support and enact, within their sphere of influence, a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment, and anti-corruption.
As we are partially owned by Sonae, we must provide this shareholder with an outline of how we comply with these principles, so it can fully report to the United Nations. Although we are not obliged to so, we have made our report on progress against the Global Compact principles publicly available.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 goals that aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. Although the goals cover a number of topics that we do not directly impact through our business model and core activities, we nonetheless support of the goals’ objectives and seek to maximise our contribution to their objectives where material.
